Pictures of Beads sent to HOPE Bracelet Project 2009 360 beads...

My little stash of beads going to the cunningham foundation along with many other lampworkers.  There they will be sent to  the Medhane-Alem School in Yetebon, Ethiopia.  Ultimately the students there will create beautiful lampworked bracelets.  These bracelets will be sold in the usa, and on line.  Revenues are returned to project mercy to help impoverished families and to enrich their lives.

The  Cunningham Foundation has been around since 2003, and has been involved in projects to raise money for Project Mercy.  The Hope Bracelet Project and the  Handmade from the Heart are two of these projects…

The Hope Bracelet Project collects beads and jewelry making supplies and money by donations, and also teaches students at the Medhane-Alem school of Yetebon, Ethiopia.  To ultimately create limited edition, beautiful bracelets.  These are sold in the USA, all revenues are returned to project mercy.

How do they get the beads?  Well, from lampworkers from USA and Canada who donate their handmade lampwork beads.  The Cunningham Foundation has also sponsored groups over the years to go to Ethiopia, to set up work shops, teach and guide new students there to create their own lampworked beads.  companies have donated torches as well.  This is a way of “Teaching Them To Fish” teaching the skills will be a source of revenue for the people of Yetebon.

What has prompted me to share this?  Well , I was so humbled to receive  a lovely heart as a Thank you .  Which was made by one of the students in Yetebon.   This is what it is all about, the progress that has come so far, and it warms my heart to know that my small contribution has helped  impoverished families to enrich their lives, and to continue to have a way to support and make life better… It has given me  a renewed spirit..

If you are interested in donating money, lampworked beads or jewelry findings to this worthy project.  Please check out these links for more information. The Cunningham Foundation   ,  Hope Bracelets Project   ,  Project Mercy  ….Purchasing a beautiful bracelet  you will have a long lasting special gift and the money will go to a wonderful cause.  The bracelets now include at least one bead made by the students, how cool is that?

So off I go … making more beads lets see if I can beat the number I made last year.  That will be fun challenge for me !  Since making beads is what I do.. :0)  Have a great day… Diane
